Abstract

Vocabulary Learning Strategies (VLS) is employed in order to teach the English learners how to master vocabularies in Politeknik Negeri Media Kreatif. This researcher had a purpose on finding which VLS is administered to the vocational students and to decide whether the use of VLS differs based on gender. The scale in VLS developed by Kocaman and Kizilkaya Cumaoglu (2014) was employed to vocational students (n=105) at Politeknik Negeri Media Kreatif. Descriptive Statistics (means, standard deviation) and samples t-test were used for numerical analyses. The result exhibited that the frequency of VLS utilized was at medium level. Additionally, in terms of sub dimensions of the scale, it had metacognitive and affective strategies at the high frequency. The result also depicted that female had higher total mean score than male students. Moreover, female students used more memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive and affective strategies. Although, there is no statistical data was found regarding the frequency of the use of social strategies.
